4. The Course
- Valhalla Golf Club (a private club) was designed by Jack Nicklaus- opened in 1986.
- The course set up for the 2024 PGA Championship is 7,458 yards, par 71.
- The entire course has been re-sodded from Bentgrass to Zoysia.
- Nicklaus’ design encompasses a par 5 with an alternate fairway, a par 4 with an island green, and a finishing hole with a horseshoe-shaped green.
- Some call it a Grip It and Rip It layout with welcoming, wide fairways. The greens are always fast, however, so concise approach shots are required.
- Recent changes include renovation of the clubhouse, adding a new agronomy center, a waterfall on the 13th hole, and new tee boxes on the first, 12th, 14th, and 18th holes.
- Valhalla is ranked as the top course in Kentucky and is listed among “America’s 100 Greatest Courses” by Golf Digest.
- The course sits on a 486-acre property on Shelbyville Road (US 60) in the eastern portion of Louisville.
