Let’s face it, 2020 was a dumpster fire for travel, but at least golf boomed in popularity. It turns out golf was the perfect outdoor sports to combat Covid-19 boredom.
Golf courses and companies are, no doubt, ready, willing and able to accommodate these new golfers and others who are playing more.
There’s lots of new golf stuff out there, such as:
Spectacular New Golf Courses
When travel cranks back up, we’ve got some great new courses to play. High on my list of several exceptional courses opening in 2021 are: St. Patrick’s Links in County Donegal, Ireland at the Rosapenna Hotel & Golf Resort, Tom Doaks first Ireland design slated to open in Summer; Les Bordes New Course in Saint-Lauren-Nouan, France, a heathland-style layout designed by Gil Hanse with an expected opening in Spring and American Dunes in Grand Haven, Michigan, a Jack Nicklaus design along the shores of Lake Michigan that recently opened.
All About Topgolf
My favorite place to get awesome apps, cocktails and some lighted target swings has opened three new Topgolf’s in the past couple of months. You can now tee up the Topgolf way in Lake Mary, Florida, Albuquerque, New Mexico and Dubai. Scheduled to open summer 2022 in El Segundo is a new Topgolf that will be situated adjacent to a redesigned nine-hole outdoor course to be operated by Topgolf.
X-Golf is Happening
They’re taking entertainment golf to an entirely new level with a restaurant, full-service bar and high-end golf simulators that will replicate all golf shots and measure ball speed, launch, direction and spin along with club path, impact, and speed. Currently, there are 24 locations around the country with more on the way. X-Golf is undergoing phenomenal growth across North America in 2021 with openings scheduled in Boston, MA; Charlotte, NC; Chicago, IL; Detroit, MI; Kansas City, KS; Madison, WI; Philadelphia, PA; Providence, RI; Toronto, Canada and many more. Company officials are planning an additional 25 to 35 new locations this year (2021).
